Midyear Energy Tune-Up: How to Check Your Inner Balance

Hey, so can we just pause for a second?

Like actually pause — not a "scroll to the bottom and skim" pause, but a genuine "put your hand on your chest and take a breath" kind of pause.

Because here we are, halfway through the year. And whether the first half felt like it flew by, dragged on, or was some chaotic mix of both — your energy body has been along for every single bit of it.

It's absorbed the stress. The grief. The joy. The uncertainty. The transitions. The moments when you showed up beautifully and the moments when you were running on fumes and just trying to get through the day.

All of that leaves a mark energetically. Not in a scary way — just in a "hey, it might be time for a tune-up" kind of way.

Now, I've written before about the power of a midyear reflection from a goals and productivity standpoint — checking in on what you set out to do and celebrating how far you've come. That's a really valuable practice and I'd encourage you to do it if you haven't.

But today we're going somewhere different. We're not asking "did I hit my goals?" We're asking something a little deeper: How do I actually feel inside right now? What's my energy telling me? And what does my inner world need for the second half of this year?

That's your midyear energy tune-up. And it might be the most important check-in you do all year.

What Is an Energy Tune-Up, Exactly?

Think of it like this: you take your car in for a tune-up not because something is catastrophically wrong, but because regular maintenance keeps everything running smoothly and catches small issues before they become big ones.

Your energy body works the same way.

Over time — through stress, over-giving, emotional experiences, life transitions, and just the general accumulation of living — your energy can get congested in some areas and depleted in others. Things that used to flow start to feel stuck. Areas that used to feel alive start to feel quiet or flat.

A midyear energy tune-up is simply a conscious, intentional check-in with each of those areas. Not to judge what you find, but to get honest about where you are so you can give your energy what it actually needs for the road ahead.

We're going to use the chakra system as our framework — because each chakra governs a specific area of your inner life, and checking in with each one gives you a really complete picture of where things are humming along and where a little extra attention might go a long way.

If you're newer to chakras, don't worry — I'll explain each one as we go. You don't need any prior knowledge to do this check-in. You just need a little quiet, a little honesty, and maybe something warm to drink. 😊

Signs Your Energy Might Be Ready for a Tune-Up

Before we dive into the chakra check-in, here are some general signs that your energy body is waving a flag and asking for some attention:

You feel tired in a way that sleep doesn't fix. That bone-deep, hard-to-explain fatigue that isn't really physical — it's energetic depletion, and it accumulates quietly over months.

You've been going through the motions. Functioning fine on the outside but feeling a little disconnected from yourself on the inside. Like you're living your life but not quite in it.

Small things are hitting harder than they should. When our energy reserves are low, our threshold for stress and irritation drops significantly. Things that would normally roll right off you start to stick.

You feel pulled in too many directions. Like your energy is scattered across too many people, obligations, and worries to feel centered anywhere.

Something feels off but you can't name it. That vague sense of "I'm not quite right" without a clear cause. This is often the energy body's way of asking for attention before it starts speaking louder.

You've been neglecting your own inner life. Skipping the practices that usually help — the quiet mornings, the movement, the moments of stillness. When we stop tending to ourselves, our energy reflects it.

Sound familiar? Even a couple of these? That's not failure — that's just being human halfway through a year. Let's see what your energy actually needs.

Your Midyear Chakra Check-In

For each chakra, I'll give you a brief description of what it governs, some signs it might be asking for attention, and a simple question to sit with honestly. You can journal through these, think through them on a walk, or just read slowly and notice what lands.

There are no right or wrong answers. Just information.

🔴 Root Chakra — Safety, Stability, and Belonging

What it governs:

Your sense of physical and emotional safety, financial security, feeling grounded in your body, and your basic sense of belonging in the world.

Signs it needs attention at midyear:

  • Anxiety that doesn't have a clear source

  • Financial worry that feels disproportionately consuming

  • Feeling unmoored, unsettled, or like the ground beneath you is shaky

  • Physical symptoms in the lower body — lower back pain, digestive issues, fatigue in the legs

Your midyear check-in question:

Do I feel safe and supported in my life right now — in my body, my home, and my finances? Or has something been quietly shaking my foundation?

(For a deeper dive into root chakra healing, head over to my post on root chakra balance and grounding.)*

🟠 Sacral Chakra — Creativity, Pleasure, and Emotional Flow

What it governs:

Your creative energy, your relationship with pleasure and joy, the flow of your emotions, and your capacity for connection and intimacy.

Signs it needs attention at midyear:

  • Feeling creatively dry or uninspired

  • Struggling to feel genuine pleasure or enjoyment in things that usually light you up

  • Emotional numbness or, conversely, feeling emotionally overwhelmed and reactive

  • A sense of flatness in your relationships or a disconnection from your own desires

Your midyear check-in question:

Am I allowing myself to feel, to create, and to enjoy? Or have I been so focused on doing and producing that pleasure and flow have quietly dried up?

(If joy has been feeling hard to access lately, my post on creating a daily joy ritual is a beautiful companion to this check-in.)

🟡 Solar Plexus Chakra — Confidence, Personal Power, and Self-Worth

What it governs:

Your sense of personal power and confidence, your self-worth, your ability to take action from a grounded place, and your relationship with your own identity.

Signs it needs attention at midyear:

  • Feeling like you've been shrinking yourself or playing small

  • Difficulty making decisions or second-guessing yourself constantly

  • A persistent sense that your needs and wants don't matter as much as everyone else's

  • Over-giving, people-pleasing, or struggling to say no (sound familiar? We just talked about this in The Art of Saying No)

Your midyear check-in question:

Do I feel connected to my own power and sense of self right now? Or have I been handing my energy away and forgetting that I get to take up space too?

💚 Heart Chakra — Love, Compassion, Grief, and Connection

What it governs:

Your capacity to give and receive love, your relationship with compassion — for others and for yourself, how you're processing grief and loss, and your sense of connection to others.

Signs it needs attention at midyear:

  • Feeling closed off, guarded, or emotionally armored

  • Difficulty receiving care, compliments, or support from others

  • Unprocessed grief or loss that hasn't had space to move through

  • Resentment that's been building quietly in your relationships

  • A sense of loneliness even when you're surrounded by people

Your midyear check-in question:

Is my heart open right now — to giving love AND receiving it? Or have I been protecting myself in ways that are also keeping good things out?

(If resentment has been part of the picture, my post on releasing resentment without rushing forgiveness might be worth a read.)

💙 Throat Chakra — Expression, Honesty, and Being Heard

What it governs:

Your ability to express yourself authentically, speak your truth, ask for what you need, and communicate with clarity and confidence.

Signs it needs attention at midyear:

  • Swallowing things you really need to say

  • Feeling like your voice doesn't matter or won't be heard

  • Chronic throat tension, tightness in the neck and shoulders, or frequent throat issues

  • Going along with things you don't actually agree with to keep the peace

Your midyear check-in question:

Have I been speaking my truth this year — or have I been staying quiet about things that actually matter to me? What have I been leaving unsaid?

💜 Third Eye Chakra — Intuition, Clarity, and Inner Knowing

What it governs:

Your intuition and inner guidance, your mental clarity and focus, your ability to see situations clearly, and your connection to your own inner knowing.

Signs it needs attention at midyear:

  • Mental fog, difficulty concentrating, or feeling like you can't think clearly

  • Ignoring your gut feelings and then regretting it

  • Feeling confused about your direction or like you've lost the thread of what you actually want

  • Information overload — too much input, not enough space to process it

Your midyear check-in question:

Have I been listening to my intuition this year — or have I been drowning it out with noise, busyness, and other people's opinions? What has my inner knowing been trying to tell me?

🤍 Crown Chakra — Spiritual Connection, Trust, and Meaning

What it governs:

Your connection to something greater than yourself — whether that's the universe, the divine, your higher self, or simply the sense that life has meaning and you are held. Your capacity for trust and surrender.

Signs it needs attention at midyear:

  • Feeling spiritually disconnected or like your practices have gone flat

  • A pervasive sense of meaninglessness or "what's the point"

  • Difficulty trusting that things are working out even when you can't see how

  • Feeling isolated in the universe — like you're navigating everything alone

Your midyear check-in question:

Do I feel connected to something larger than my daily worries right now? Or have I been so heads-down in the grind that I've lost touch with the bigger picture of my life?

(This one connects beautifully to what we explored in The Energy of Surrender — that practice of releasing your grip and trusting that you are held. If your crown has been feeling quiet, that post is a lovely place to start.)

What Did You Notice?

Okay — take a breath. That was a lot to sit with.

Maybe one or two areas lit up clearly. Maybe several did. Maybe you surprised yourself by what felt more depleted than you realized — or more okay than you expected.

Whatever you found, here's what I want you to hear: this isn't a report card. It's a map. And a map is only useful if you actually use it to navigate somewhere.

So let's talk about what to do with what you just discovered.

How to Recalibrate: Practical Ways to Restore Your Inner Balance

You don't need to overhaul your entire life based on this check-in. In the spirit of gentle progress, you're looking for small, consistent shifts — not dramatic transformations. Pick one or two areas that called to you most strongly and start there.

1. Give Each Depleted Area One Dedicated Practice

Match the practice to the chakra. A few ideas to get you started:

  • Root: barefoot time outside, warm nourishing meals, establishing a steadying routine

  • Sacral: make something with your hands, move your body for pleasure rather than performance, spend time near water

  • Solar Plexus: practice saying no to one thing this week, do something just for yourself, affirm your own worth daily

  • Heart: let yourself receive something graciously, write a letter you may never send, practice self-compassion deliberately

  • Throat: journal about what you've been leaving unsaid, have one honest conversation you've been avoiding, sing in your car

  • Third Eye: spend time in silence without input, take a walk without your phone, journal your gut feelings without editing them

  • Crown: return to a spiritual practice that's gone quiet, spend time in nature with no agenda, practice surrender in one small way

2. Do an Energetic Declutter

Just like a physical space accumulates clutter over time, your energy body accumulates what it's been carrying — old emotions, unresolved situations, the residue of stress and over-giving.

Mid-year is a beautiful time to consciously release some of that. This might look like a letting go ritual, a clearing meditation, time in nature with the intention of releasing what's heavy, or working through my Letting Go Ritual Workbook as a structured practice. (More on that below.)

3. Revisit Your Boundaries

If your solar plexus or throat chakra flagged during the check-in, it's worth asking where your energy has been leaking through obligations, relationships, or patterns that aren't serving you. Tightening those energetic boundaries is one of the fastest ways to start feeling more resourced. (My post on protecting your energy with grace is a good place to start if this is your area.)

4. Return to Your Body

So much of energetic recalibration happens through the physical body — because your body is where your energy actually lives. Movement, breathwork, time in nature, nourishing food, rest that's actually restful. These aren't extras. They're the foundation. (If grounding has been hard, revisit the root chakra practices we covered — they apply here beautifully.)

5. Create a Simple Second-Half Intention

Not a goal list. Not a productivity plan. Just one clear, energetically aligned intention for how you want to feel in the second half of this year.

Maybe it's: I want to feel more grounded and present. Or: I want to create more space for joy and wonder. Or: I want to stop leaking my energy and start trusting myself.

Write it down. Put it somewhere you'll see it. Let it guide your choices more than your calendar does.

6. Consider an Energetic Reset Through Reiki

Sometimes the most efficient thing you can do for an energy tune-up is work with someone who can see and feel what you can't always access on your own.

A distance Reiki session focused on midyear recalibration is exactly what it sounds like — a thorough energetic check-in and clearing that works with all of the areas we've talked about today. A lot of people find that after a session, things that felt stuck start to move, things that felt heavy start to lighten, and they have much more clarity about where to focus their energy for the rest of the year.

If several areas flagged during your check-in, or if you've been feeling depleted for a while and grounding practices haven't been quite enough, this might be exactly the support your energy body is asking for.

Journal Prompts for Your Midyear Energy Tune-Up

Take these slowly — one at a time, over several days if you like. They're meant to go a little deeper than a quick skim.

  • Which chakra area felt most depleted during my check-in, and why do I think that is?

  • What has my energy been most consumed by in the first half of this year?

  • What have I been carrying that was never actually mine to carry?

  • Where have I been showing up for everyone else while quietly neglecting myself?

  • What does my energy body most need for the second half of this year?

  • If I could release one thing — one pattern, one obligation, one story — before the year's second half begins, what would it be?

  • What would it feel like to arrive at the end of this year feeling genuinely balanced and well?

Affirmations for Your Midyear Reset

Say these slowly, with one hand on your heart if you'd like. Let them land in your body, not just your brain.

  • I give myself permission to check in, recalibrate, and begin again.

  • My energy deserves the same care I give to everyone else.

  • I release what the first half of this year has asked me to carry.

  • I am allowed to feel good, balanced, and whole.

  • I trust my body and my energy to show me what I need.

  • The second half of this year holds space for my healing and growth.

  • I am not behind. I am exactly where I need to be.

Frequently Asked Questions About Energy Tune-Ups

Do I have to believe in chakras for this check-in to be useful?

Not at all. You can treat the chakra framework simply as a way to organize your inner life into meaningful categories — safety, creativity, power, love, expression, clarity, and meaning. The questions are valuable regardless of the spiritual framework you bring to them.

How often should I do an energy check-in like this?

Seasonally is a lovely rhythm — once every three months gives you enough time between check-ins for things to have genuinely shifted. A midyear check-in and an end-of-year check-in are the most natural anchor points, but honestly any time life feels off or heavy is a good time.

What if almost every chakra area flagged during the check-in?

First — be gentle with yourself. That just means you've been carrying a lot, which is incredibly common. Rather than trying to address everything at once, pick the one or two areas that feel most urgent and start there. Small, steady shifts in one area often create ripple effects in others. And if you're feeling this depleted across the board, a Reiki session might be a really efficient place to start rather than trying to piece it together yourself.

How is this different from your midyear reflection post?

Great question! My earlier post on midyear reflection focuses on your goals, achievements, and outer life — what you set out to do and how you're tracking. This post is about your inner life — your energy, your emotional landscape, your spiritual health. They're genuinely complementary, and doing both gives you a really complete picture of where you are at the halfway point.

Can distance Reiki really address multiple chakra areas in one session?

Yes — this is actually one of the strengths of a full-body Reiki session. Rather than working on one isolated area, the energy flows where it's most needed throughout the session. It's one of the reasons people often feel a comprehensive shift rather than a targeted one.

Final Thoughts

You made it through the first half of this year. Whatever that looked like — whatever it cost you, whatever it gave you, whatever it left behind in your energy field — you made it through.

And now you get a midpoint. A breath. A chance to check in, recalibrate, and decide how you want to move forward.

You don't have to carry everything that got piled on in the first six months. You're allowed to set some of it down. You're allowed to ask what your energy actually needs. You're allowed to choose a second half that feels a little lighter, a little more aligned, a little more like you.

That starts right here. With a hand on your heart, an honest look at where you are, and the quiet, powerful decision to tend to yourself with the same care you give to everything else.

You deserve a beautiful second half. Let's make sure your energy knows that too. 💛
